The word "Resolution" is used in so many different contexts, it's definition can be a bit confusing. For my intent
and purpose I will restrict the definition of "resolution" herein solely to that of the Final Printed Image... whether a
Photographic Print (grain) or a Digital Print (d.p.i.) - it matters not.
RESOLUTION defines the clarity & sharpness of detail
in the Final Print, as well as affecting it's color saturation
and contrast. The resolution and color saturation in a large
print from these 4x5 film scans is stunning. Many of my
Large Prints have surprised me with details unseen in the
previous smaller prints, such as hikers high in an alpine
meadow or waterfalls on a distant ridge.
A lower resolution image "breaks up" if it is enlarged
too much and will lose color saturation and sharpness of
detail yielding a softer focus in the final image. The High
Resolution Prints have much greater color saturation and
contrast latitude yielding a sharper, more life-like image.
I've illustrated some examples of High Resolution on the
Speaking of resolution brings us to SCALE. There's the
resolution of a small print & there's the resolution of a
LARGE PRINT. Both may be of High Resolution, but the
Large Print will have a much greater impact on the viewer.
A PANEL DISPLAY is two or more prints hung in
succession (lined up next to each other) creating a
Panoramic View. You can almost be surrounded in a large
Panel Display. Of course, the drawback of a large display
is that it requires a large space for installation.

FRAMING is a personal choice. Since art is subjective
and everyone can experience it differently, I will leave the
unlimited framing options up to you- Matte/Glass/Frame. I
have displayed numerous prints bare, without any glass to
protect them (which eliminates a lot of glare issues). They
endure rather well, really! Just dust them off with a
feather duster or dry cloth.
Most important of all is the FINAL INSTALLATION.
This caters to the viewer's ability to SEE the Image under
optimum conditions, and it's likely that the piece will stay
there for awhile. So great consideration should be paid to
Placement & Optimal Lighting. A great print can
disappear behind a glass reflection if not installed
properly.
