I initially purchased a 135mm film Camera in 1973 and backpacked around the Pacific Northwest consistently for about 20 years capturing the scenic beauty which abounds there. Then I saw some Oversized/High Resolution Photographic Prints in a hospital entrance, the prints were of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan located in Washington State's North Cascades. I'd never before seen large photographs with such vivid presence - bold colors, dramatic contrast and sharpness of detail; WOW! They were beautiful and I wanted to shoot similar shots of some of my own favorite places. So in 1992 I bought a Large Format 4x5 film, Field View Camera and began lugging the thing around with me to various out-of-the-way backcountry destinations.
The "Fujichrome Velvia" 4x5 Film has been an excellent medium for rendering high resolution prints of some of my favorite places on the Planet. I have always loved the scenic outdoors and the 4x5 film still beats the current Digital Technology for producing high resolution field work (the 8x10 film cameras aren't practical for backcountry work - too bulky and too heavy). Needless to say I am passionate about my 4x5 transparencies (slide film).
When properly displayed a Large Print can transport the viewer instantaneously to the site where the image was captured. Like looking out through a window, it beckons for exploration. I'm drawn in... it's like I want to get out my Binoculars!
